OUR HOME is one of our most valuable investments and we want to protect it from harm. The earth and its environment is also our home and we want to protect IT from harm. Termites have a valuable purpose in the forests by breaking down and eating fallen trees - we certainly don't want to kill them in their original home. However, we DO want to kill them when it is our home they are eating!
HOW WE KILL TERMITES is of great importance to the Etex Corporation. The founders of Etex saw an avenue to provide the consumer with a product that would kill ONLY termites, not people, not animals. What's more, there was an additional benefit- a product that did not disrupt or destroy the environment! And so this avenue was diligently pursued with thousands of hours of development, field testing and ongoing research in order to bring a valuable non-chemical product to the general public and at the same time help to reduce the amount of chemicals being released into the atmosphere and the consumers' exposure to these chemicals. Please note that we said REDUCE the amount of chemicals, not do away with them. In some cases, the use of chemicals is needed and indeed a plus to have available, however the overuse of chemicals is what concerns us.
While we have been welcomed with open arms by the public, you must understand that the pest control industry has always been completely dominated and controlled by the chemical interest groups. For this reason, some in the industry see us (and all other non-chemical methods) as a threat to their continued dominance. Change comes very hard for some and the pest control industry is no different. Some of the old, long-time and very influential operators resist this new technology because they are knowledgeable, comfortable and used to doing things the way they have for years, while the new, young forward-thinking operators are eager and willing to move into the 21st Century with an IMP (Integrated Pest Management) approach.
Since the old guard has more power, influence and money than the new, this has unfortunately brought about much opposition in the way of progress. While we have been waging a war on termites, the chemical interest groups have been waging a war on us. We have won many battles along the way, but the war continues. We want this senseless war to end, but the only way it can end is for the public to make their wishes clearly known.
We know you are concerned about your home, your health, your environment and the future of your children. Don't wait and don't let someone else speak for you, speak for yourself! If you are chemical sensitive or simply feel more non-chemical methods should be used and developed, then SPEAK UP. Let your state regulatory agencies know how you feel. If you use a pest control company, tell them that you want their company to support and use non-chemical methods when they can. Understand that the selection of non-chemical methods right now is very small, however, if there is a public outcry to the pest control industry as well as federal and state governmental agencies to support further developments via grants and research money to individuals or companies wanting to develop these types of methods, you will soon see a much larger selection. Etex developed the Electro-Gun with its own money and with a great deal of opposition. Think what could be developed with industry and government support.
